British conservationist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough is to host a new immersive experience at London’s Natural History Museum (NHM).

Called ‘Our Story with David Attenborough’, the experience will open on June 19, 2025, and has been described by NHM director Doug Gurr as “an immersive experience where the story of our species will come to life around us.”

It will be housed inside the museum’s Jerwood Gallery and will combine state-of-the-art digital projection with real-life natural world footage to take visitors on a cinematic journey through human evolution, starting with the Earth’s beginning almost 4.5 billion years ago.

“Humanity is the most influential species on Earth. We depend entirely on this magnificent planet, yet its future is in our hands,” said Attenborough.

“My hope is that visitors of all ages will experience our extraordinary journey at the Natural History Museum and come away feeling inspired, informed and most of all empowered about their integral role in our world. This is our story and we can all play a significant role.”

The new experience is the result of a three-way partnership between NHM, Attenborough and production company Open Planet Studios and, according to Gurr, will further the institution’s mission “to create advocates for the planet.”

The news comes after the recent opening of ‘Fixing Our Broken Planet’, a new permanent gallery at the museum that explores the climate crisis and offers science-backed solutions for a more sustainable future.

Earlier this year, the NHM announced that it had provided resources and funding for climate action programmes at 12 regional museums and cultural institutions across the UK to “drive meaningful action for a future where people and planet thrive.”
