One person has died and nine have been left seriously injured after a rollercoaster car derailed at Sweden’s Gröna Land amusement park

One person has been killed and nine others injured in a rollercoaster accident at the Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden.
According to witness reports, riders fell to the ground after the park’s Jetline rollercoaster – which stands 30m (90ft) tall and reaches speeds of 99km/h (55mph) – partially derailed on Sunday, June 25.
The BBC reports that 14 people were on the rollercoaster when the front part of the vehicle separated from the rest of the carriage before stopping in the middle of the track and sending riders “crashing” to the ground.
The park was evacuated shortly after, as police and emergency services were called to the scene.
Three of the nine injured are believed to have been seriously wounded and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while rescue crews freed the passengers still trapped on the ride.
“It’s important for us to do everything we can to get the bottom of this,” said Gröna Lund’s head of information Annika Troselius during a press conference.
“It is incredibly tragic and shocking. Unfortunately, we have been informed that one person is killed and many are injured.”
Gröna Lund’s chief executive Jan Eriksson declared “a day of mourning” following the tragedy, adding: “Something like this should not happen at Gröna Lund, and yet it happened.”
Gröna Lund is to remain closed as police carry out investigations.
