Tottenham Hotspur has announced a partnership with Formula 1 that will see the Premier League football club open a world-first in-stadium karting facility branded under the F1 banner.

Part of a 15-year strategic partnership between the London club and Formula 1, the experience aims to create an authentic F1 experience for drivers of all ages and ability levels.

Featuring both adult and junior race tracks, as well as dual karts to cater for accessibility requirements, F1 Drive - London will create an immersive experience designed to emulate the feel of an F1 Grand Prix.

To recreate the feel of driving an F1 car, each kart will be fitted with immersive audio, with sound effects taken from onboard recordings of the cars of Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc during an F1 Grand Prix. Drivers will also hear commentary from David Croft and Naomi Schiff, as well as live driving tips as they manoeuvre round the race track.

Also taking from F1, the advanced karts will feature a simulated ‘DRS’ (Drag Reduction System) button on the steering wheel, which will allow greater speed when close to a competitor in front for dramatic overtakes. Karts also feature a ‘boost’ button, which will deliver additional power for short bursts of time and will recharge during a session.

The steering wheels are also advanced, with an 18cm LED display, providing data and updates to the driver such as lap times, intervals, boost level and flags.

Finally, timing screens, sector times and colours matching official F1 broadcast graphics add to the experience.

“We wanted to create a karting experience that truly captures the feeling and atmosphere of Formula 1 and offers an accessible entry point to our sport for as many people as possible, and F1 Drive – London is going to deliver on this vision and more,” said Jonny Haworth, director of Commercial Partnerships for Formula 1.

“Whether you’re just starting out on your motorsport journey with your eyes set on the F1 Grid or are looking for a great day out with family and friends, F1 Drive – London can deliver an authentic F1 experience for all.

I’m excited to see the karts launch and track testing begin, and I can’t wait to see our fans hitting the track in the new year.”

The experience is confirmed to open in 2024, with details on an official opening date and ticket sales to be announced in the coming weeks.
