The Disney Cruise Line is expanding its fleet with four new ships, with the operator also announcing new shows at sea based on its Hercules and Moana IPs.

Setting sail between 2027 and 2031, the four new cruise vessels will bring the fleet up to 13 total ships, with each offering Disney-themed entertainment and dining experiences in a variety of destinations worldwide.

“The demand on our existing cruise fleet is very, very high, so we know there's a big opportunity here to invest aggressively in incremental cruise ships,” said Josh D’Amaro, Disney parks, experiences and products chairman.

“Now we're going to have a fleet that can go meet our fans where they are and tell all these amazing stories that we have.”

Announced at the D23 fan event during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, the four new ships’ names, designs and itineraries are still being kept under wraps, though new experiences were announced for both the Disney Destiny and the Disney Treasure during the session.

Coming to Disney Destiny, which starts sailing in 2025, ‘Disney Hercules’ is based on the classic Disney animated film, and will feature music and characters from the franchise performing on-stage for cruise goers.

Meanwhile, on the Disney Treasure, which sets sail later this year, a brand new production called ‘Disney The Tale of Moana’ will tell stories from the IP of the same name, and will also include a giant puppet, which will appear on stage.

“Te Kā will appear onstage as a 15-foot-tall puppet – the largest we’ve ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show,” said D’Amaro. “I’ve had a chance to see this in person, and it is stunning.”

The news accompanies that of Disney’s grand expansion for its parks, which includes a Disney villains-themed land, a Monsters, Inc. land and a doubling in size of Avengers Campus among a host of major additions to its offering on land.
