Christie illuminates putting challenge for Vegas Strip’s Atomic Golf

Atomic Golf is a brand-new attraction in Las Vegas, with the sports entertainment venue utilising Christie technology to light up a series of virtual putting areas for a game of skill catering to both beginners and experts alike

A new golf-themed attraction has opened in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Christie technology used to power eight virtual putting areas for the four-storey Atomic Golf complex.

Opened on the Las Vegas Strip in March, the 99,000sq ft (9,200sq m) venue features more than 100 golf bays alongside the putting areas.

The goal of the putting challenge is to create a game that’s enjoyable for all players regardless of ability. Designed by Beaudry Interactive, the roofed outdoor greens utilise Christie GS Series laser projectors, which illuminate areas as players hit targets to score points, with infrared cameras tracking each player’s ball on the green in real-time.

Each green is 10ft (4m) wide by 20ft (8m) long, with four Christie DWU1100-GS projectors creating an image bright enough to use the areas both in the day and at night. Overall, 32 Christie projectors were used for the putting areas.

Design consultants and project management company Coherent Design worked with Christie to determine the number of projectors needed, the brightness, and the portal glass for the enclosures. Las Vegas’ Simply Connected installed the projectors. The virtual putting areas were created and designed by Beaudry Interactive.

“It’s a harsh environment so we needed a projector manufacturer that was backed by solid engineering. We know Christie has engineers and project managers who could help us with a successful project,” said Kevin Potts, managing principal, Coherent Design.

“When we get into more complex projects, we want a manufacturer who has not only the engineering capabilities to build their product but the know-how to implement their product into unique environments.”

According to Christie, Beaudry Interactive and Coherent Design delivered a project that “enhances Atomic Golf's entertainment options and creates a unique experience for guests”.

“With so many entertainment options in Las Vegas, it can be hard to stand out. But Atomic Golf has done just that. It’s a sports entertainment venue that’s not just for seasoned golfers but for anyone who wants to come out and have fun,” said Paul Dumpel, sales manager, Christie.

“What Coherent Design and Beaudry Interactive have created is truly unique and we’re thrilled that Christie projection was selected.”
