Cruise operator Cunard has announced that survivalist Bear Grylls will join one of its Alaska sailings in 2023, marking the adventurer’s first-ever speaking appearance on a cruise ship.

Taking place aboard the Queen Elizabeth, on its maiden Alaska voyage departing from Vancouver, Canada, on June 8, Grylls will share with passengers his experiences as one of the youngest ever climbers of Mount Everest, his adventures all over the world and his work as an author and TV presenter.

The 12-night sailing will see passengers experience the Glacier Bay National Park, Tracy Arm Fjord and Hubbard Glacier, with port calls in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka and more.

The voyage will also mark Grylls’ first visit to Alaska since 2015 where he met then US President Barack Obama.

Following the Grylls voyage, Queen Elizabeth will sail six more times from Vancouver in June, July and August, with a number of adventurers on board.

Each trip will feature an exploration Insights Programme with award-winning naturalist, Dr Rachel Cartwright, a cultural heritage guide from Alaska Native Voices, as well as talks and Q&A sessions from adventure and exploration experts, including British mountaineer Kenton Cool, polar explorer Felicity Aston and maritime archaeologist Mensun Bound.

“I’ve been a fan of Bear Grylls since Man vs Wild and I’m thrilled that our guests will be able to see him live on Queen Elizabeth next year,” said Matt Gleaves, VP of commercial for Cunard in North America and Australasia.

“Alaska is all about exploration and our line-up of world-class pioneers will bring the adventure onboard; it will be an experience not found anywhere else.”
