Park officials at California’s Knott’s Berry Farm hope to reopen its Xcelerator rollercoaster this summer.
The iconic 50s-themed rollercoaster unexpectedly closed in March 2022 so that several parts of the ride system could be replaced.
Knott’s is working alongside ride manufacturer Intamin to get the 50s-themed rollercoaster back up and running by the end of the summer.
“Safety is always the top priority at Knott’s Berry Farm and all Cedar Fair parks,” said a statement from Knott’s officials.
“When the ride reopens to guests, it will have been thoroughly tested and recommissioned.”
First opened in 2002, Xcelerator is a steel-launched rollercoaster that can reach speeds of up 82mph (132km/h). Standing 205ft (62m) high, the ride is Knott’s tallest attraction and features a hydraulic catch car launch system and 2,202ft (671m) of track offering two hairpin turns.
