Ukraine museums plan for a postwar future

Representatives of museums in Ukraine met at the end of May for a two-day conference held in Berlin. Called “From Crisis to Future: New Responsibilities for Museums in Ukraine,” the event was created by OBMIN - a Warsaw-based foundation set up as a platform for more than 100 museums across Ukraine.

The event, described as the largest gathering of Ukrainian museum workers since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, saw experts from Ukraine, Poland and Germany share ideas for restoring cultural heritage sites in the country in the near and distant future.

In the meeting, delegates created 10 proposals highlighting how museums can contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine and strengthen its civil society.

The proposals are currently being presented at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, an international annual meeting held in Berlin from June 11 to 12.
