A US$1.2m underwater museum is set to open to the public by the end of the year, with the Spirit of SXM Sculpture Park coming to the island of Saint Martin in the Caribbean.

A US$1.2m underwater museum is set to open to the public by the end of the year, with the Spirit of SXM Sculpture Park coming to the island of Saint Martin in the Caribbean.
Currently being installed 6m (20ft) below sea level in Little Bay, the underwater museum will feature 300 sculptures and is set to open December 15th.
British company Deep Blue See is behind the development, which will be ticketed for cruise and stay-over tourists, while free sessions will be open to the local community. Among the sculptures featured are a number of residents who have had their likeness cast for the museum.
“We have built an underwater gallery that celebrates the history and culture of St. Martin, whilst also creating an artificial reef for marine life and corals to grow and thrive,” said Deep Blue See’s Alexis Cambden.
“We picked Saint Martin because of its natural beauty, its welcoming attitude and their encouragement to build something special for the island and its marine life.”
