Around 10,000 people gathered at Stonehenge for the annual summer solstice, with 154,000 more watching the event online.
Built to align with the sun on the solstices, on the summer solstice, the sun rises behind Stonhenge’s Heel Stone in the north-east part of the horizon with the first rays shining into the heart of the ancient heritage site.
Along with the usual druids and pagans that attend the annual event, which celebrates the official start of summer on the longest day of the year, thousands of visitors were in attendance for the event at sunrise.
The event is run by English Heritage, which allows controlled access to the site for the celebration.
