Theme parks and family attractions to drive tourism in Malaysia, says minister

Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Malaysia’s deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture minister, has said that the theme park and family attraction industry will be an important hub for the country’s tourism industry.

Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Malaysia’s deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture minister, has said that the theme park and family attraction industry will be an important hub for the country’s tourism industry.

Malaysia has made significant investments in major attractions in recent years, most notably with the US$800m Genting SkyWorlds, which opened its doors in February last year.

According to Khan, collaborating with tourism body Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysian Association of Theme Parks and Family Attractions (Matfa) will further expand the industry, as well as attract more tourists and investors.

“This industry is the main hub for our products,” he said. “We need new and innovative products for tourists to see that Malaysia serves a variety of products which change from year to year.”
