Recent research has suggested that the majority of consumers travelling for leisure consider sustainability initiatives to be either important or extremely important to their plans.

More than two-thirds of consumers surveyed in Sustainable Tourism: An Untapped Opportunity for Green Growth, said that sustainability aspects were important or extremely important when travelling for leisure, while 73% expect sustainability to become more important over the next five years.

The study, by Bain & Company reveals an increasing appetite for more sustainable tourism among leisure travellers across the globe, who will choose destinations and providers - including airlines, hotels, restaurants, and tour companies - based on their sustainability records.

“The uptake in sustainable tourism is driven by an appetite to travel sustainably and make more responsible choices,” said Karim Henain, partner at Bain & Company Middle East.
