Six Flags Magic Mountain to install massive solar carport

Six Flags Magic Mountain is about to become home to the largest solar project in the US installed by a for-profit organisation, with the massive solar carport set to offset 100% of the theme park’s energy usage with clean energy.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is about to become home to the largest solar project in the US installed by a for-profit organisation, with the massive solar carport set to offset 100% of the theme park’s energy usage with clean energy.

To be built above the main guest parking area, Six Flags is working with Solar Optimum and DSD Renewables on the project, which will see a 12.37-megawatt solar carport and battery storage system installed at the Los Angeles attraction.

The system will produce 20.8 million kilowatt hours of energy annually - enough to power 2,874 households and the equivalent of taking 3,182 cars off the road.

“Six Flags has placed a high priority on efforts to improve and protect the environment, leading the way for theme park companies around the world and capturing the attention of other private organisations that also have the power to drive solar projects,” said Jason Freeman, Six Flags’ vice president of Operations, Public Safety, Engineering and Maintenance.

“By partnering with experts like Solar Optimum and DSD Renewables, we can continue to improve our environmental programmes with additional waste, water and energy reduction targets and initiatives.
