Return of international tourists brings Merlin back to profit

The post-pandemic return of tourism worldwide has seen Merlin Entertainments move back to profit, with the operator returning to its pre-pandemic growth trajectory.

In 2022, 56.4 million people visited a Merlin park, hotel or holiday village - an increase from 35.2 million visitors in 2021. This rise in footfall boosted revenues by 59 percent to £2bn for the year.

As a result, Merlin, which operates attractions in 25 countries, saw pre-tax profits of £136m last year, compared with a loss of £94m in 2021.
