A new waterslide has opened at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan, with the Mega Abyss from Whitewater breaking the record for the world’s largest funnel-shaped waterslide.
Built to mark the park’s 60th anniversary, the ¥1.8bn (US$11.5bn) attraction stands 30m tall and 25m wide, with the giant slide featuring a 140m-long chute sloping at a maximum angle of 48 degrees.
On the ride, thrill-seekers sit in a rubber raft, which will go up and down rapidly before sliding into the tube at the bottom of the slide.
“We live in the golden age of simulated reality such as augmented reality and virtual reality, but we want to provide a real thrill,” said the park.
