Princess Cruises has said it will not be adding a rollercoaster or waterpark to its offerings, after announcing a new activity zone onboard its upcoming Sun Princess.
The cruise operator has traditionally offered a more relaxed experience as opposed to other Carnival brands, such as Royal Caribbean, which feature elements such as waterparks. In 2021, Carnival introduced the first ever rollercoaster at sea on-board its Mardi Gras vessel.
Speaking during a webinar, Sun Princess design team member Richard Parker told trade partners that Princess Cruises would not be going down this road despite announcing Park19 - an activity space featuring nine engaging activities for the entire family - on board the upcoming ship.
“Here at Princess Cruises the reality is we’re not going to do a rollercoaster, we’re not going to do a theme park, we’re not going to do waterslides, that just isn’t us, it’s not our DNA,” he said.
“It’s not a rollercoaster or a theme park but it’s more of a park setting. We have some activities here that we feel will also be enjoyed by the entire family and also enjoyed by the entire family together. As opposed to the kid doing something and the parents or grandparents waiting for them, what we want to do is have everyone enjoy this experience together.”
