Heritage sites in Ghana are planning to revitalise the African country’s museum experience with the introduction of the new Museum Theatre Project.

Emmanuel Jewel Peprah Mensah, Asokwa Municipal Assembly cultural director, is leading the project, which in its pilot phase will take place as a case study at the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi.

According to Mensah, the Museum Theatre Project will bring Ghana’s rich historical narratives and artefacts to life in Ghanaian museums, monuments, and other heritage sites. The programme will utilise theatrical techniques, drama, and theatre to interpret historical objects, histories, and exhibits for educational, informative, and entertainment purposes.

“Everyone loves a good story,” he said. “Through storytelling and theatrical performances, we can get our message across more clearly and in a more engaging manner.”
