Memphis Zoo breaks ground on Sri Lanka research station

The Memphis Zoo has broke ground on a new research station centered on biodiversity and land conservation in Sri Lanka.






The Memphis Zoo has broke ground on a new research station centered on biodiversity and land conservation in Sri Lanka.

Memphis Zoo Curator of Research Dr. Sinlan Poo introduced staff to her former colleague at the National University of Singapore as a part of the zoo’s mission to establish six flagship conservation programs.

Professor Enoka Kudavidanage, head of the Department of Natural Resources at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, founded the Tropical Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) as part of her efforts to protect the biodiversity of her home county.

TERN, a non-profit in Sri Lanka, does work in four principal areas: Conservation, Awareness, Research, and Education.

Due to loss of habitats in recent decades, both the land and the animals in Sri Lanka are increasingly under threat.
