Heritage operation Severn Valley Railway (SVR) has confirmed the sale of one of its most popular locomotives in an effort to secure its financial future.
With continued rising costs, the SVR recently launched a £1.5m public appeal to help it continue operations.
The railway, which runs in the UK between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster and welcomes 250,000 people a year, has since sold the LMS 'Black Five' 45110 to an unnamed buyer, which SVR says will play an “important part” in securing its finances.
According to senior figures at the railway, the heritage operation would not have been in a position to restore the locomotive in the future, with costs expected to come to around £1m.
