October 1 marks a huge landmark for Disney World, which has kicked off celebrations for its 50th anniversary.
First opening to guests on October 1, 1971 the attraction has grown into a 40sq mi entertainment complex that includes four theme parks, two waterparks, golf courses, a shopping destination and 27 resort hotels.
