The British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA) has welcomed Universal Destinations & Experiences to the UK following the announcement of plans to bring a multi billon pound theme park and resort to Bedfordshire.
The British government has greenlit plans for Universal’s first European theme park resort in Bedford, after reaching a landmark deal with entertainment giant Comcast almost £50bn (US$64bn, €58bn) to the UK economy during its construction and first 20 years of operation.
Responding to the news, BALPPA released a statement saying it was delighted to welcome Universal Destinations & Experiences to Bedford and the wider UK.
“As an Operator of world class attractions, the Universal brand will fit in well to an established culture of fantastic visitor attractions who welcome millions of visitors every year across the UK, said Paul Kelly, BALPPA chief executive.
"This is a great boost to the local and national economy. As established Members of BALPPA, we look forward to working even closer with the team at Universal Destinations and Experiences as they develop this world leading attraction in the years to come.”
BALPPA has over 300 members, with the organisation advocating for the interests of the UK’s commercial leisure parks, piers, zoos, visitor attractions, family entertainment, and indoor play centres.
